Switching hosts doesn't mean starting over. A Project Zomboid multiplayer save is just a few folders and files, and they all move across together. Everything below is named after your server, which is servertest unless you changed it.
1. What to copy
| What | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| The world | Zomboid/Saves/Multiplayer/servertest/ (the whole folder) |
| Player accounts, admins and whitelist | Zomboid/db/servertest.db |
| Server rules | Zomboid/Server/servertest.ini |
| World settings | Zomboid/Server/servertest_SandboxVars.lua |
| Spawn points (if you changed them) | Zomboid/Server/servertest_spawnregions.lua |
If you hosted from your own PC, the Zomboid folder is in your user folder. On Windows, press Win + R and enter %USERPROFILE%\Zomboid.
2. Download from your old host
- Stop the old server, so the save isn't changing while you copy it.
- Download the files above, using your old host's file manager or SFTP (FileZilla or WinSCP work well). Zip the world folder first if your host allows it, because it contains thousands of small files.
3. Upload to Nexcom
- Start your new Nexcom server once and then stop it. This creates the folder structure.
- In Settings, make sure the Server name and Game build match your old server exactly.
- Connect with SFTP (details are on your dashboard's Overview tab) and upload each file to the same path as before, replacing what's there.
- Add the same mods in the same order on the Mods tab. A save that loses a mod can break.
- Start the server and watch the console. You should see your world load by name.
4. Check everything
- Join and check your base, cars and inventory are where you left them.
- Ask a friend to join with their usual login. Their account came across in the
.dbfile. - Take a backup straight away, so you have a clean copy on your new host.
Rather we did it for you? Migrations from another host are free. Open a ticket on Discord with access to your old server's files and we'll move everything across.
